The best reason to train and evaluate all lift truck operators is to improve workplace safety. OSHA created a new regulation (29 CFR 1910.178(l)) that spells out requirements for operator training and evaluation with the intent of reducing the number or forklift accidents. Failure of the employer to comply with the new rules can result in expensive fines and loss of insurance coverage. This can be disastrous to the employer if a serious accident occurs. Learn More

Over the past few days, OSHA fined a market in Brooklyn over $62,000 for securing its doors at night. Faced with issues regarding employees leaving during the evening, the managers of the supermarket thought it would be a good idea to secure the doors at night and prevent employees from leaving without the permission of the supervisors.

When it comes to an emergency, you don’t need OSHA forklift certification to know how crucial it is to be able to evacuate a building where there is danger present. Fires, flooding, or even something as unexpected as a terror attack could force employees to need a quick exit. OSHA officials contend that by securing the doors, the supermarket put its employees at serious risks that could cause injury or even death.

The market was cited for what is termed as one willful violation of a “locked exit” and four serious violations for blocked exits. Any serious violation is noted when death or serious physical injury could occur from the block, so the $62,000 fine encompasses these violations.

Though a forklift may not be used in a supermarket setting, forklift certification training dictates that unlocked exits and an escape route must be present for any employee in any work situation. A forklift certification card is required for anyone operating a forklift or heavy machinery on the job. As you may know, accidents can happen on any work site – so whether you’re working on a construction site or supermarket, it’s important to ensure employees are notified of the most viable escape routes.

Employees working at the supermarket don’t require a forklift certification card to be on the floor – therefore, some of them may not be aware that locked doors are a violation of OSHA standards. Employees who don’t need forklift certification or other such training to complete job duties may not have any ideas what their options truly are.

There is no word yet from the supermarket as to whether or not the fine will be contested in any way. The employer has a set amount of time to contest OSHA fines. If there is no contest or appeal, the employer will be responsible for paying the fines within a set period of time.

OSHA forklift certification and other on the job testing involves hands-on training. This training will cover exits for escape should any serious hazard occur in the workplace.

You don’t need a forklift certification card to protect yourself from hazards. It’s important to understand all the dangers in the workplace, whether those dangers include fires, electricity, or any other hazard present. By restricting employees from exit, the supermarket owner held employees back from escape measures should any kind of hazard happen – and for that, an employee has to be accountable.

Above and beyond other US states, New York state is one of the leaders in OSHA-related workplace safety. OSHA aerial lift training standards and regulations are strictly enforced by OSHA state bureaus and employers all over the state of New York.

However, new numbers coming in from the Bureau of Labor Statistics suggest that New York City workers are the victims of workplace fatalities at a new high.

Despite genie lift certification, boom lift training and scissor lift safety training being enforced in New York City construction workplaces, worker fatalities and injuries are at an all time high. According to the number, sixty-three workers were killed in New York City workplaces in 2009. This number leapt to sixty-eight fatalities in the year 2011.

Despite appropriate aerial lift training, deaths continue to occur as part of an upward trend in these New York City construction sites. Authorities claim that the reasons for the upward swing are not necessarily easy to explain. Economic stress leads to tighter deadlines as well as worker distraction. Job cuts cause competition and distraction in New York City workplaces like never before.

Despite appropriate scissor lift safety training and other training measures, it’s difficult to stop an employee’s stress when he is worried about whether or not he will keep his job. These distractions coupled with varying and harsh weather conditions, a climate of hostility due to financial implications and tighter deadlines, and the ever-present stress of a visit from OSHA inspectors may make an employee forget his or her genie lift certification training.

Employers can cushion distractions and reinforce training methodology by continuously offering refresher courses in OSHA aerial lift training. These courses should include refreshers in genie lift, scissor lift and boom lift training on the job. Employees operating heavy machinery should receive both hands-on and hands-off refresher training while on the job.

New York City isn’t the only place in the US affected by harsh economic times and winter weather conditions. Though fatality and injury numbers aren’t generally on the rise, these are tough times for all workers. There is talk of a city-wide effort underway to help employers offer refresher training and keep employees abreast of the best ways to stay safe within the workplace. Employees who require OSHA aerial lift training are handling aerial lifts of all sizes and functions, and may also require genie lift certification, boom lift training and scissor lift training certification.

It’s important to interact with your employees regularly to ensure that training standards are kept up, and to maximize morale within the workplace. This can help minimize distractions that lead to accident or injury. It’s also important for employers to have an open door policy for employees, as well as continuously transmit OSHA aerial lift training standards to employees.

Learn more about these standards and ensure that your employees are adequately protected in volatile economic and climate conditions by visiting certifymeonline.net. The tools, tips and regulatory coursework to help your employees succeed is available online.

Everyone who’s ever had to go through OSHA training knows it can be painful. It’s no secret – it’s not even a secret to the people who are out there making the safety laws happen and enforcing them. It’s not easy – it’s dense material, but it’s absolutely crucial to safety on the job and keeping employees following the appropriate standards.

<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/ckq7x1V187w” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you decide to work with an external company to assist you in online OSHA certification, you shouldn’t have to complete any more than FIVE crucial steps to get your employees certified. Any company who gives you a lengthier process is adding in unnecessary steps, and any company who goes for less could be missing critical components in their certification process.

In order to ensure that your employees are OSHA certified to operate forklifts on the job, you’ll need to do the following:

Register a Company. Once you get your company online by answering a few simple questions, you can begin entering information about your employees and your OSHA certification needs.

Register an Operator. A good OSHA forklift certification program will ask for some critical information such as the employee’s name and a few credentials. You should be able to assign a unique username and password for your forklift operator to log in and get certified.

Student Logs in and gets started. Your operator should be able to log in from anywhere – including a smart phone such as an iPhone, Android, Windows Phone or other model.

Online learning and testing. All the necessary materials to review and test on for OSHA forklift certification can be access via a smartphone or laptop. This makes business and testing efficient for everyone, as you don’t have to pull your employees out of work for days-long seminars that are dry and time-consuming.

Printing of Cards. Official documents will come in the mail in a short time, but until then, you and your employees have the security of knowing you can print off cards in case an inspection happens.

You know as a business owner than an OSHA inspection can happen anytime. You can get your forklift operators certified quickly and efficiently through companies that allow you to complete the training online.

If your OSHA forklift certification company demands more of your time than these five easy steps take, it might be time to shop around. Anyone looking to get an OSHA forklift operation clearance online should take advantage of programs that condense and simplify steps in this manner to avoid cost and extra time that could be spent working.

If you’re a company operator looking to get your forklift employees OSHA certified, take advantage of the time and money-saving steps outlined above. Get started online at <a href=”http://www.forkliftcertification.com”>forkliftcertification.com</a>.

“OSHA Alert: OSHA issues special bulletin for students operating Aerial Lifts.”

Washington, DC – OSHA has issued a bullet for operators of Aerial Lifts throughout the American work force who do not currently hold OSHA aerial lift certification.

Aerial lift students throughout the United States are now eligible to complete a cost-effective, rapid-learning OSHA certification course that will provide all the necessary training modules, testing and subsequent documentation for OSHA certification.

If you are currently an Aerial Lift student who needs to complete OSHA certification in order to operate an Aerial Lift, this bulletin is geared toward you. Online learning materials can be accessed and utilized anywhere, and are quickly replacing older methods of offsite learning and onsite hires to conduct OSHA aerial lift training onsite.

Within just 60 minutes, you will be able to complete a full OSHA aerial lift curriculum, take the appropriate testing, and then immediately print off documentation such as cards and temporary certifications that will demonstrate your OSHA certification.

You can also complete this training anywhere – with a smart phone, with a laptop or a home computer, or on a computer at work. You can access OSHA aerial lift testing modules 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with highly advanced, rapid learning courses that are easier to use than traditional offsite learning methods.

If you are an employer, aerial lift OSHA certification is easier than ever before. Bulk online registrations can be completed for new aerial lift students. Hires can be input into the training modules in bulk, and learning and testing materials can be access within a matter of a few minutes.

Rather than facing an expensive OSHA fine, getting aerial lift training done for serious students of OSHA aerial lift materials can happen literally within a few hours. There’s no waiting for cards or lengthy materials to print out – you can print them out immediately, and official materials will come in the mail later.

Says a recent OSHA online aerial lift student, “I actually completed everything I need on my iPhone, and printed my card out in my house. I was on the job again the next day. I couldn’t believe how fast it was – and I think it was a lot easier than taking one of the classes I saw down the street that cost over $500 just to register. Plus I would have missed a full day of work!”

New technology has revolutionized the OSHA certification process for qualified students. As an OSHA certified employee, you can get back on the job and begin operating your aerial lift within a matter of hours. OSHA online aerial lift certification makes it easier than ever before to get online within hours using simple and information learning modules and testing software. As an Aerial Lift student, you could be eligible to save time, get on the job ASAP, and try it today!

If you’ve started or maintained a forklift certification program for your employees, you know what a hassle getting new employees oriented to your policies and operations can be.

Let’s face it- training is a time-consuming hassle. Many companies don’t even know how to begin the training process, and end up hiring outside orientation specialists to get forklift operators familiar with OSHA guidelines. This can sometimes cost thousands of dollars and be an incredibly time consuming enterprise for both you and your employees.

If you’re considering hiring an external expert to come in and get your employees oriented toward forklift operation, you may want to consider a time-saving, cost-efficient online OSHA training program. The advantages to an getting your employees oriented to OSHA training materials online are numerous.

First of all, if you use online orientation materials, your employees don’t have to miss work by going offsite for training. Online OSHA forklift certification modules only take an hour to complete in many cases. This includes both training and testing – just 60 minutes can give your operators all the certification necessary to meet OSHA guidelines.

Forklift certification seems like a hassle to so many, but it doesn’t have to be. Many owners are surprised to learn that just a few simple steps can make all the difference in their training programs. Training can actually be done online in many cases as a companion to the field training, and offsite training doesn’t have to occur if you find the right online program for you and your employees.

Online OSHA forklift certification keeps employee morale high by allowing operators to complete training when it’s most convenient for them. OSHA forklift training can happen on a smartphone or laptop – so your employees don’t even have to be on the job when they go through the training process.

It’s this simple: Learn, Test, and then Print off certification cards that can be used immediately until official certification materials arrive in the mail. There’s no easier way to get OSHA forklift certification online for your employees.
New operator orientation will be easy throughout the life of your business because you’ll have your certification issues handled out of the gate. No more bringing someone in, no more expense to get your own program built, and no more costly journeys to another facility to get new employees ready to handle your forklifts.

OSHA forklift certification used to be a costly, involved process – but now new employees can go through a new hire orientation with online OSHA forklift training faster than ever before.

There are so many potential issues an employee can face when natural disasters strike. The east coast was recently affected by record floods when Hurricane Irene hit. Many workplace deaths and injuries can be prevented by understanding the hazards present during a natural disaster.

If you’re at work when a disaster strikes, your employer should ensure you’re up to code on safety equipment, that you have routes for evacuation or quick exit, and that you know where first aid and injury supplies are should the worst case scenario occur.

OSHA points out some potential hazards that may be present in the workplace when a natural disaster strikes. Part of the safety training your forklift employees will need to go through in order to be certified involves handling natural disasters.

OSHA states that some natural disasters employers and employees alike may face in the workplace include:

Electrical hazard. Employees who operate heavy machinery are at risk of running into power lines, or having downed lines hit them while operating a forklift. It’s important to understand the location of electrical lines and monitor them closely during a natural disaster. Never try to brave downed power lines using a forklift in any way.

Excessive heat. This has been one of the hottest summers on record in many US locations, and the heat isn’t showing signs of letting up anytime soon. Hot machinery can cause serious burns to all areas of the body. Take care when handling hot surfaces, and make sure to wear heat proof gloves when operating hot machinery such as a forklift.

Heat stroke and fatigue. When a drought is happening, or strange weather patterns brought about by a natural disaster occur, temperatures can change quickly. Being ready for whatever weather comes your way will help you prepare for the worst when operating a forklift.

Pests. When a disaster occurs – particularly flooding – the presence of rodents, insects, and poisonous snakes increases. A wet environment is a breeding ground both for bacteria, and for rodents in distress. OSHA warns workers to watch out for wild animals running from distress during natural disasters. When animals are in a natural disaster, they can behave in an aggressive way toward humans.

OSHA has set out guidelines that employers and employees alike are to follow in the event of a natural disaster. With hurricanes, earthquakes, and wildfires as part of our national landscape over the summer, it’s important for businesses to enter fall with a new sense of purpose and caution.

If safety training your forklift operators to ensure OSHA standards are up to par is not part of your fall plan, take a look at your company’s accident report and reconsider. It’s been a tough summer for the country in terms of natural disasters, and you need to make sure your employees are as safe as possible.

We’re no stranger to extreme heat. Particularly if you own a business that involves employees being out on hotel metal lifts all day, you know exactly what we’re talking about.

Heat can be a major risk to employees. Heat stroke, burns from handling hot equipment, malleability of hazardous materials, and lift and drop accidents caused by dealing with hot metals all pose a risk to you and your work force.

Hot temperatures are still holding on in many parts of the country, with the deep south experiencing temperatures over 100 degrees Celsius, even in early September. Some areas have experienced months of nonstop drought, and are experiencing extreme wildfire danger. Many areas are devastated.

OSHA sets forth specific guidelines on ensuring your employees are safe in high temperature environments. The OSHA Heat Safety fact sheet gives details about the two types of heat illness that plague outdoor workers: Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke. Particularly for workers who spend all day outside on aerial lifts, heat exhaustion and heat stroke can be major concerns.

Heat exhaustion is accompanied by the sweats, muscle cramps, rapid heartbeat, headache and dizziness. The systems of heat stroke re a bit different. Heat stroke is accompanied by red, hot skin, confusion, and someone fainting or seizure-like convulsions.

Fast treatment is absolutely critical when a worker is suffering from heat exhaustion or heat stroke. The foreman should always be notified when a worker is experiencing these systems due to operating an aerial lift in the hot sun. Waiting to get help can result in hospitalization or death.

The OSHA Fact Sheet suggests that drinking water every 15 minutes will help minimize the effects of sweltering summer heat when operating an airlift. OSHA also suggests that affected employees wear safety hats and protective clothing, as well as spend as much time necessary in the shade to minimize the risk of heat exhaustion and related illnesses.

Shaded areas should always be available to workers during the hot summer months. Aerial lift operators should have the necessary time to retreat from the lifts and take time in the shade. Water should be provided at the work site.

When it comes to the hot summer months, the health of your employees is your number one asset. Preventing heat illnesses can ensure that missed time from work is not a problem for your employees. The heat this summer could stretch into October, so it’s important to make sure that the health of your employees is at maximum throughout the year.

OSHA has guidelines on a number of work hazards that you can print out and hang up around the office and worksite. Your number one priority should be protecting your employees during these hot dog days of summer.

The number of injured workers in industrial environments tends to increase around the end of the summer. There hasn’t been any solid research conducted to determine why this happens annually – but every year like clockwork, more and more workers are injured during the fall.

What are possible reasons, and how do we prevent injury?

One potential reason injuries occur at this time of year is climate change. In some places like Texas the weather is maxing out, reaching highs of 110 degrees in industrial and urban areas. In other places in the US, the weather is getting colder.

We all know that cold and hot weather cause changes in the malleability of certain metals and other work materials, which could result in some issues with handling these types of materials on the job. Hot meal isn’t exactly pleasant to touch, and handling metal without putting gloves on just one time can cause serious accidents on the job, from burns to loss of balance.

Another potential issue experts have suggested for greater injuries during fall is a shift in schedules. Many students return to school in the fall, which means earlier hours for parents and varied traffic patterns on the roads in the morning. School often causes added stress for parents, whose minds may not be “on the job” while in a work environment. These kinds of distractions and loss of sleep can result in less focus at work – which naturally lead to more accidents.

A change in temperature outside may also result in a greater amount of construction contracts for many companies, which can lead to promotions and new hires on the job. Newer workers may not have the necessarily OSHA training to operate equipment such as forklifts on the job, and foremen in new positions may not have the ability to advise workers on how they should correctly operate forklifts.

If you find more accidents occur in your workplace during the fall, there are things you can do to minimize the risks to your employees.

You should identify times of the year when most accidents or injury occur at your workplace, and schedule work safety training refreshers 30-60 days before this time of year comes around. Refresher courses are a part of OSHA training and certification for many employees. You can schedule these courses to happen around the same time that you choose to orient new hires if you’d like to save job time.

Another thing you can do is post safety reminders around the job site on a more regular basis during caution times. Warning and danger posters and safety refreshers can accompany posted OSHA materials within your workplace.
If you own a business with forklift operators, you know how important it is to maintain safety. Safety first on the job should always be your first priority. A safer work environment means higher productivity at any time of the year.
