Information on Forklift Training

I am 36,12 years in window trade and State Certified. I would like to start a new career in HVACR. School?Help?

Looking at Allied Trade School and others, this one is a month and 150 hours hands on mostly and some books, EPA cert.+ OSHA. Good way to start? Not many places offer entry level or will train or apprentice. I live in Boynton Beach, Florida and HVACR seems like a better way to make a living then windows and something I could physically still do 15-25 years from now unlike windows. Need to make more than $16 an hour, my company has struggled for years and is slow, seems like after some school and several years of hard work I might have I decent future in the HVACR trade. Suggestions? Please Help!

I saw your question and had to take some time on this one! I am a seasoned commercial/Industrial H.V.A.C/R Technician, Universally certified (EPA), Natural Gas Certified Installers, LP Cert, Carrier Cert. (no longer existing) working on everything from package units to DDC panals (Direct Digital Control). Over the years, Ive seen many come and go and after many years I decided to go. I was making 28.00/hr with company vehicle(bring home),quarterly Mo. profit sharing,401K, plus Christmas bonuses and such, I was making good money for a 28 yr old. My body gave out! H.V.A.C/R at 19 when I came into it damn near killed me, another thing…you are working with large amounts of pressure, intense flame, extreme weather conditions, must have…the ability to handle a customer freaking out while fixing a liebert unit at 4:30am the heavy parts, you carry a 40Lb tool bag every where, the 30lb tank of R-22 you carry, your guages attached to you, all while climbing a ladder! I would seriously think before investing in the industry. If I could do it all over again I would of gone to college (went military instead) and focused on the "supervisor" positions, engineering, ect…but not a lead technician. BTW, Florida last I knew ranked lowest paying for H.V.A.C/R Techs in the Nation. There is a site I belong to HVACtalk, google it. Great site and you can pose the question there and yes, you can get "sponsored" where you ride with a tech for a year and attend night school eventually you to get the distinct honor of getting placed on the "On Call Roster" for the Holiday's…Welcome to H.V.A.C.R…and theres so much more! LOL…Good luck,
Ian
